Responsibility

Environment and occupational safety

We acknowledge responsibility to the environment and the safety of our employees. Our primary objectives are to conduct our operations to ensure compliance with all legal requirements and to meet other obligations such as meeting air emission standards, trade effluent consent limits, exceed chemical and waste disposal targets and also to minimise accident rates on site. We work closely with the relevant regulatory authorities and our latest investments include processing plant that minimises energy use, recycles process water, and includes a fully enclosed solvent vapour degreasing facility. We also have a modern extraction system -  providing a safe environment for both our workforce and our surroundings.

Reduction of Annual Carbon Footprint

Sustainability Lighting, 2015

We moved into our new Hinckley site in 2010 and by late 2011 it was fully operational with capacity to spare. As part of a 12-month project, we assessed the lighting in older parts of the factory which were not updated during the initial installation.

We found that there were 22 Metal Halide low bay 250 watt light fittings in total. With the support of an external lighting specialist, we discovered that we could reduce energy usage and make a considerable annual saving if these were changed to a Twin LED 32 watt fluorescent style light fitting instead – giving us an average 200 LUX at floor level.

With initial layout cost for the installation of the new LED lighting system, which would have a payback period of just over 3 years, we are set to save money each year and most importantly reduce our annual carbon footprint.
